The Scottsdale City Council will have a strategic-planning workshop on Tuesday, April 1, to talk about its priorities for the year.

Topping the list are plans to inject more life into the McDowell Road corridor and south Scottsdale.

Other priorities focus on tourism, transportation, economic development, budgets and work culture.

The 3 p.m. workshop takes place at City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd. The city will accept written comments from the public to share with council members.

The City Council formally adopted the priorities Dec. 10, said Brent Stockwell, Scottsdale strategic initiatives director.

They are:

• Partner with residents and businesses to revitalize the McDowell Road corridor.

• Provide strategic support of tourism and visitor events.

• Create and adopt an economic development strategy.

• Develop a transportation strategy that anticipates needs.

• Prepare and adopt financially sustainable operating and capital budgets.

• Reinvest in a high-performance organization and work culture.

At the session, the council also could identify and discuss new priorities.

Scottsdale has laid out a number of tools to revitalize McDowell Road and the surrounding area.

By June, the council is scheduled to hear a presentation on redevelopment districts as tools for stimulating revitalization in the area, according to a report on the 2013-14 strategic plan.

Another initiative focuses on recruiting a major high-profile project to the corridor.

The city has recommended increasing the frequency of bus service along route 17, McDowell Road.

The proposal suggests bus service every 15 minutes, rather than every 30 minutes, from 44th Street to Granite Reef Road.
